“We’ve worked with Katie for many years because of her great personality, flexibility, attention to detail, and multiple talents. While many people excel at either design, copywriting or proofreading, Katie is proficient in each of these areas and brings all of her talents to every project.”

The Pursuit of Communication
I’ve dedicated my life to the pursuit and mastery of written and spoken communication. I believe that effective communication is simple yet profound; it makes a logical point while glimpsing genuine emotion of the heart. Communication is an art form. Eloquent communication reminds me of a nautilus shell: a tiny chamber builds on itself in a logarithmic yet beautiful pearlescent spiral, finally culminating in a radiant expanse of smooth illumination.
Here’s a history of how I’ve entwined my interest and love for communication with my work:
Newly graduated from Tulane University with a BA in Communications, I wanted to capitalize on my experience as Public Relations Director (and Disc Jockey) with citywide WTUL radio and as Marketing Intern for Columbia Pictures.
Through a series of events my path led me to a corporate Communications Specialist position with Rich’s department stores in Atlanta. I researched, photographed and wrote the employee news magazine Richbits, coordinated employee contests and events, and wrote speeches for the President and CEO.
Four years later Apple computer created a little box of a computer and a big box of a laser printer and revolutionized the print communications world with desktop publishing. I thought it was amazing technology, and I started a business to capitalize on it: CFB Communications Inc. I struck out on my own and ended up with Rich’s as my biggest client. I became quite adept at writing and creating brochures, newsletters and other corporate print collateral. In addition to Rich’s, ongoing clients included Gwinnett Hospital System, Georgia State University Career and Job Search Services, a BMW Motorcycle dealership, Emory Office of Information Technology, and the Georgia Humanities Council (GHC). Twenty-one years later GHC is still my client.
Setting the goal of improving my communications skills, I applied to and was accepted into the Master of Communication program at Georgia State University. I originally intended to study journalism but was lured by rhetoric, and I graduated with a Master of Communication degree in 1994. The rhetoric of political communication was my specific area of interest. I financed my education by teaching public speaking classes to undergraduate students, and after graduation became a Communication adjunct faculty member teaching Public Speaking, Business and Professional Communication, and a course I helped to create, Desktop Publishing.
This background leaves me uniquely suited to consult with individuals and businesses on today’s communications puzzles, problems and projects.
After ten years of teaching I wanted to explore the world of real estate. I left the hallowed halls of academia, earned a real estate salesperson’s license, and surrounded myself with the best and brightest people in the industry at Coldwell Banker, Keller Williams, and most recently Chapman Hall Realty. I’ve learned a lot from my Brokers, my fellow agents, and perhaps most from my clients. I understand that selling real estate is really about honest human communication. The real estate itself is the commodity, but its people and their emotions who control it.
Throughout this journey CFB Communications has been the common thread. I’ve never turned away from my communications clients, whether they be corporations, students, or people buying or selling a house.
